SIPO Commissioner Tian Li Pu Meets IP Professionals in Taiwan
China’s State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO) Commissioner, Mr. Tian Li Pu, paid his first visit to Taiwan. Mr. Tian Li Pu was in Taiwan from July 9 to July 15, 2012. During his visit, Mr. Tian spoke at the half-day Cross-Strait Patent Practice Seminar.
Accompanying Mr. Tian on his visit was the Deputy Governor of FuJian Province, high ranking officials from both SIPO and the IPO of FuJian Province, the President and Secretary General of the All China Patent Attorneys Association (ACPAA), as well as patent attorneys from FuJian Province and ACPAA.

Mr. Tian and some of the officials from SIPO, the FuJian IPO and ACPAA had a meeting with the Director General of the Taiwan Intellectual Property Office and some leading IP practitioners. Among the topics discussed during this meeting, realizing Chinese patent practice for Taiwanese who pass the China patent bar was something that was talked about at great length, in view of the relatively recent eligibility of Taiwan residents to participate in the patent bar exam in China. However, there are still many obstacles before direct patent practice before SIPO becomes possible for such Taiwanese.
 
During Mr. Tian’s stay in Taiwan, Tsai Lee & Chen was honored to host a welcome lunch and reception for Mr. Tian and his delegation. Before visiting one of our office areas, Mr. Tian and the officials from SIPO, the FuJian IPO and ACPAA heard a short presentation about the firm’s history and operation, and this was followed by discussion with our patent attorneys. Tsai Lee & Chen was the only local IP law firm Mr. Tian and his delegation visited, and our patent attorneys thoroughly enjoyed their time with Mr. Tian and the other officials from China.
Following the visit to Tsai Lee & Chen, Mr. Tian and his delegation went to Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., Ltd. (Foxconn), where they received a warm welcome.
