China Launches Series of PPH Pilots With Multiple Countries in 2014

I. Initiation of the IP5 PPH Pilot Programs among five Intellectual Property Offices (SIPO, USPTO, EPO, JPO, and KIPO) on January 6, 2014

The world's five largest Intellectual Property Offices (IP5), the State Intellectual Property Office of People's Republic of China (SIPO), the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), the European Patent Office (EPO), the Japan Patent Office (JPO) and the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) reached an agreement in Geneva, Switzerland in September 2013 on the Patent Prosecution Highway (PPH) pilot program (the "IP5 PPH Pilot Programs"), which has been initiated since January 6, 2014, and will extend for a term of 3 years until January 5, 2017.
 

II. Initiation of the China-Portugal PPH Pilot Program on January 1, 2014

According to the memorandum signed by the SIPO and the Instituto Nacional da Propriedade Industrial (INPI), the China-Portugal PPH pilot has been launched since January 1, 2014. This pilot program will extend for a term of 2 years until December 31, 2015.
 

III. Initiation of China-Spain PPH Pilot Program on January 1, 2014

According to the memorandum signed bySIPOand the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office (SPTO), the China-Spain PPH Pilot Program has been launched since January 1, 2014. This pilot will extend for a term of 3 years until December 31, 2016.
 

IV. Extension of China-Danish PPH Pilot for two years since January 1, 2014

The PPH pilot program between the SIPO and the Danish Patent and Trademark Office was started on January 1, 2013 for a term of one year and expired on December 31, 2013. According to a unanimous common decision of both offices, this pilot program will be extended for 2 years until December 31, 2015.
 

V. Infinite Extension of China-Finland PPH Pilot Program from January 1, 2014

The PPH pilot program between the SIPO and the National Board of Patents and Registration (NBPR) of Finland was started on January 1, 2013 for a term of one year and expired on December 31, 2013. However, according to an Intentional Statement on the Extension of PPH Pilot Program Between the SIPO and the NBPR, the China-Finland PPH pilot will be extended infinitely from January 1, 2014.
