New Rules on Composite Marks

Taiwan's trademark office now allows registration of a composite mark that contains a descriptive component if the following requirements are met: (1) the descriptive component constitutes an integrate part of the composite mark; and (2) theapplicant disclaims the descriptive component.

Confusing similarity between the foregoing composite mark and another mark must be determined on the basis of totality of the composite mark.
