New “International Classifications of Goods and Services”

As the 8th edition of Nice International Classification of Goods and Services released in June 1, 2001, and effective on January 1, 2002, the TIPO amended our Classification of Goods and Services accordingly.

The major change is dividing previous services in Class 42 “Services for providing food and drink; medical services; hygienic and beauty services; veterinary and agriculture services; legal services; scientific and technological research services; design of computer programs; and other services not belonging to other classes” into 4 classes.

New Class 42

“Services provided by professionals, i.e., chemistry researches or services; physics researches or services; engineering; computer analysis; legal services; and etc.”

New Class 43

“Services for providing food preparation and drink consumption; services for providing accommodation; services for providing food and drink; or other temporary accommodation”

New Class 44

“Providing medical services or hygienic and beauty cares for human beings or animals; also including agriculture, horticulture and forestry services.”

New Class 45

“Services for providing investigations or monitoring for personal or property security; social services, i.e., escorting in society, marriage agencies, funerals, and etc.” The new Classification was promulgated by TIPO on December 24, 2001, to be effective on March 1, 2002.
