2001 Taiwan Patent Statistics at a Glance

In 2001, 67860 new patent applications were filed to the TIPO, increased by 10.83% compared to the year of 2000, while the 17,721 approvals were published in 2001, an 12.97 % annual increase. With respect to the nationality of applicants in 2001, the foreign application were accounted for 40.75%, among which Japan accounted 18.65%, the U.S. 11.65%, and Germany 2.5%. As the high tech patents increases with the development of relevant industries, in view of current high-tech industry development in Taiwan, the number of patents can be expected to increase in the future.
